The team, due to arrive in July 2009 for a pre-training camp, will be taking full advantage of the world-class sporting facilities provided by the University. It will also be using the conference, accommodation, food and leisure facilities offered by imago – a combination of requirements that will include the need for some 1700 room nights in this calendar year alone and generate a further 3500 room nights each year until the Olympics in July.

Emma Boynton is Head of Sales & Marketing at imago: “This is extremely positive news for imago – and a hugely proud moment for our team. A full schedule of specific training is already in place including putting many staff members through the Welcome International programme. The exchange of cultural knowledge will also be a fantastic opportunity for personal development for each of us. Staff briefings introducing us to Japanese customs and hospitality etiquette are planned and imago’s Head of Group Catering and Head Chef at Burleigh Court will be visiting Japan in September to learn more about the nutritional needs of our new customers.

“Essentially securing a three-year deal in this climate is a great result and it will cement our reputation in global arenas as an award-winning venue capable of complex delivery needs. It will allow us to build new international links and open a channel to our local and regional businesses.

“Yet we are only at the beginning of this experience – platforms for new areas of business growth are just being explored. At the moment we are just delighted with the sheer thrill of the announcement and what is to come!”

Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: “Loughborough University is quite clearly the leader in sport and the study of sport …. As I travel both in the UK and the world, sport at Loughborough is synonymous with excellence.”
