England Rugby Football League players become imago residents
A 22 strong squad of the UK’s toughest Rugby League players have made imago’s Burleigh Court hotel its home after naming Loughborough University as the team’s official preparation camp.
The players, including management led by Head Coach Steve McNamara, recently stayed at the four star hotel before the mid-season England Origin International Match on Friday 10th June.
Steve McNamara, England's Head Coach, has been extremely impressed with the facilities provided by imago. He said: “We have outstanding outdoor training facilities here, all of which are complimented by the accommodation and catering at Burleigh Court. The facilities in terms of the lecture theatres, physio rooms and areas for socialising provide the perfect set up for us. Everything is very well coordinated and all our needs have been met.
Not only are the sporting facilities important for the squad, but being part of the unique surroundings Loughborough University offers is a key factor. Steve explains:
“We have a certain amount of privacy, but the players can mix and socialise with people from different fields and other sports. A number of elite sports are based here, and to be surrounded by other athletes and coaches is important.”
The preparation camp forms part of a series of training camps based at Loughborough University, all building up to the Rugby League Four Nations Tournament which is taking place in Autumn 2011. The RFL wanted to set up a training base to provide a home base and consistency throughout the season for all full England and England Knights (Second team) Camps. Loughborough provides this in addition to a high performance sporting environment ideal for professional athletes to focus on their training and performance.
